Richa Ravindra Karmarkar
“…Can you be a Hindu and an atheist…the answer is yes.” April 04, 2024
In 2023, the Religion News Service hired Richa Karmarkar as the first national religion reporter covering the Hindu beat. She hopes the growth of the Hindu community sparks interest and curiosity about the diversity of a religious tradition that is not well understood.  From the opening of a new Hare Krishna temple in the Washington, DC region to the embrace of feminist deities by a new generation, Karmarkar is excited to cover a tradition that 1% of Americans self-identify with either religiously or culturally.

Richa Karmarkar, New York City-based reporter for RNS, primarily covering Hinduism. Before joining RNS in 2022, Karmarkar worked at the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy.
