That is one of the key findings reinforced by the unhappiness American adults expressed in a new poll released by the Pew Research Center. Dr. Gregory Smith is joining us on this week’s show.
Gregory A. Smith, Ph,D. Associate director of research at Pew Research Center. He helps to coordinate the Center’s domestic polling on religion. Smith also writes reports and provides information to news media and others about religion and public opinion, religion and American politics, and the political views of Catholics. Smith holds a doctorate in government from the University of Virginia, where he was a fellow at the Center on Religion and Democracy.

The leader of Word and Way, a Christian media company, is focused on building conversation spaces for Christians to deal with the MAGA version of Christianity and confront the political manipulation of scripture. Author and editor-in-chief of Word and Way, Dr. Brian Kaylor, joins to share the history and diversity of the Baptist world and why he’s so focused on confronting the emergence of Christian nationalism. He also describes how poverty alleviation advocacy organized by faith and lay leaders is gaining traction in building a multiracial coalition.
The conversation continues as Kaylor describes why the juxtaposition of insurrection and resurrection draws a line between Dr. King’s legacy planning the first Poor People’s Campaign and the struggles of poor people seeking government action. Kaylor discusses how contested the history and perceptions about the January 6th violent insurrection have become a symbol of resistance in Christian terms.
