Imagine if God were an actual being, a perfect companion who could sit down and have a cup of coffee with you. Who could grasp your hands, give you advice, and offer you total, unconditional love.

For about a quarter of Americans – many of whom are Evangelical Christians – a vivid, intimate connection with God is the goal of spiritual experience. Thinking about God like this isn’t easy; it’s a mental task that takes discernment, imagination, and above all, faith.

Study: Media Consumers Don’t Like Religion Coverage April 20, 2012
When it comes to religion news, the public wants to know more about spirituality, beliefs and faith experiences. But journalists give them stories about scandals and controversies. That’s according to a new study of 2,000 adults and 800 journalists. John Green, a lead researcher on the poll, explains the disconnect – and ponders whether the media should always deliver what the public wants.
