Rev. Billy Graham, Pastor to Presidents

Rev. Billy Graham, that Southern Baptist minister with movie star-good looks and a booming voice, is arguably the most influential public preacher of our time.  Over his six decade career, the 89-year-old has counseled every U.S. president since Harry Truman and filled stadiums with followers all over the world.

Now, as Graham recovers from surgery, we take a critical look at the life and legacy of this iconic, charismatic preacher.

Dr. Michael G. Long, Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies at Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pa., and editor of The Legacy of Billy Graham: Critical Reflections on America’s Greatest Evangelist

The Ex-Gay Movement

Starts at  22:50

Can counseling and prayer make you straight?  And should you even try?  This is the question at the center of the so-called “ex-gay” movement.  While the mainstream scientific community strongly says "no," a growing fringe of religious and secular groups claims that people can change.

This week, Interfaith Voices probes the controversial movement with sociologist Dr. Michelle Wolkomir, who spent a year studying an ex-gay ministry in the American South.   Her findings echo the position of the American Psychiatric Association, which recommends that "ethical practitioners refrain from attempts to change individuals' sexual orientation."

We also hear from two Christian men who attempted to change their orientation—with very different results.

Allen Calhoun, who spent one year at Regeneration, a ministry affiliated with Exodus International—an umbrella organization that says change is possible

Peterson Toscano, who spent 17 years trying to change his sexual orientation and is organizing an event in Memphis, Tenn. called "Deconstructing the Ex-Gay Myth: A Weekend of Action & Art”
