A recent article called “What ISIS Really Wants” has become the most read story every published in the history of The Atlantic. In it, Graeme Wood says that pretending that the so-called Islamic State isn’t actually a religious group, with a coherent theology, has led the rest of the world to underestimate its power. But it has caused an uproar online. One of Wood’s most thoughtful critics is Muslim scholar Yasir Qadhi, who says the problem with Wood's analysis is not what he says, but what he doesn't say: that the root causes of ISIS are "the hellish conditions Western powers created in the region." | More Than Just a Milkman: Theodore Bikel Remembered |

You might know the Jewish actor Theodore Bikel as Tevye the milkman the from Fiddler on the Roof, a role he played onstage thousands of times. But he was a true renaissance man: he was a movie actor, a social activist, a folk singer, a composer and a general force of nature who sang in 21 languages. This week, we’re listening back to our 2011 conversation with Bikel, who died on July 21st at the age of 91. He spoke to the editor of Moment magazine, Nadine Epstein, about fleeing the Nazis, his love of Yiddish, and his deep commitment to Judaism.
